One of my favorite things about travel isn’t always the famous landmarks or the big attractions. Sometimes it’s the unexpected experiences that turn into the best memories.
Earlier this year, my sister, my daughter and I took a weekend trip to New York City to see the Broadway musical Hadestown. The show was incredible, but one of the highlights of our trip happened before we ever took our seats in the theater.
We spent an afternoon on a vintage shopping experience that I found through my travel membership.
If you’ve never gone vintage shopping in New York City, it’s an adventure all its own. Instead of walking into the same stores you can find anywhere, we explored unique shops filled with one-of-a-kind clothing, accessories, jewelry and treasures from decades past. Every rack held the possibility of finding something special.
What made the experience even better was sharing it with two generations of family. My daughter was discovering styles and trends that have come full circle, while my sister and I enjoyed seeing pieces that reminded us of earlier eras. We laughed, compared finds, tried things on and spent hours exploring corners of the city we probably wouldn’t have visited otherwise.
Travel is often about seeing new places, but it’s also about creating memories with the people you’re with. Looking back, I don’t just remember the stores we visited. I remember the conversations, the excitement when someone found the perfect piece and the fun of spending uninterrupted time together.

Whether it’s a vintage shopping tour, a neighborhood food walk, a local cooking class or simply wandering through a part of the city you’ve never seen before, those experiences often become the stories you remember most.
And for us, this New York City weekend will always be remembered as the trip where we saw Hadestown and spent a day treasure hunting through vintage New York together.
